Big Bike Sale

About the Big Bike Sale

The Big Bike Sale hosts local retailers, selling ultra-low cost second-hand refurbished bikes from as little as £75.

The Big Bike Sale is held in the Green Lancaster marquee in Alex Square at the start of the academic year. The sale provides students with a low-cost, quick and easy way to travel between campus and the city, whilst helping the University reduce it’s travel related carbon emissions, which is an important part of the University’s strategy for sustainability. Alongside the Big Bike Sale, Dr Bike maintenance and repair services will run on Thursdays throughout the year. These services will also be undertaken in Alexandra Square where staff and students can seek professional advice and servicing by a team of qualified bike specialists.

Win a bike of your choice

Last year we gave away a whole bunch of cycle accessories. This year we’ve stepped things up. Come along to the marquee on each Tuesday of the Big Bike Sale to talk to us about Travel at Lancaster and give us your feedback to be in with a chance to win a bike of your choice up to a value of £500!

11am – 2pm Tuesday 4th and 11th October.

This year we are hosting:

The Big Bike Sale is an event for both Lancaster University students and staff to purchase bicycles for use as an environmentally friendly and sustainable mode of transport across the university and beyond. We have support this activity by installing new cycle parking across campus, in the form of both secure and open access parking. Search 'cycle parking' on MazeMap for you closest location.

Our Big Bike Sale vendors operate independently of each other and Lancaster University, so the standard of service may differ. Most suppliers offer a range of bike accessories, although none will sell helmets at this year's event.

The sale is aimed at students as a way of encouraging them to commute sustainably. We support this by installing new cycle parking across campus (both secure and open access parking) search MazeMap for locations.
