Induction & Mandatory Training

Induction & Mandatory Training

Workers will require an induction on or prior to their first day, detailing the expectations and specific working conditions for their department and role. This will vary across roles and departments and HR can be approached for guidance on effective induction processes. Dependent on the role, your new starter will be required to undertake online mandatory training in:

  • Diversity
  • Health and Safety
  • Information Security
Mandatory Training
Authorising Timesheets

Authorising Timesheets

As a hiring manager, it is your responsibility to ensure that your worker's timesheets are authorised each week. The deadline for authorising timesheets each week is Tuesday at 5pm. ERS will send you reminders via e-mail regarding any outstanding timesheets requiring your authorisation. Failure to authorise timesheets by our monthly deadline may result in your worker not receiving payment. Please find below a link to download the current pay date and deadline calendar for this year, which contains all the important dates for reference:

Learning and Development

Learning and Development

Your worker will require several areas of training in order to carry out their role successfully. It is important that the longer-term goal of improving employability is recognised throughout a worker’s placement. Up-skilling and development opportunities for workers should be discussed and recognised.

The Employee Assistance Programme is available to all members of staff at Lancaster University, including temporary workers.

Workers can access the resources available online by going to Workplace Wellness and using the login: luwell

The online information and resource library offers user-friendly factsheets, self-help guides, podcasts and links. These are readily available for support with common issues such as money management and debt, change, work life balance and stress and pressure; and also for proactive support relating to health and wellbeing for topics including nutrition, sleep, smoking, alcohol, weight management and physical activity.

For information and advice or emotional support, your worker can also contact the 24/7 helpline: 0800 1116 387

Workplace wellness can arrange for you to have counselling through scheduled appointments on the telephone, face to face or online.

The service provides unbiased, impartial, independent advice and is a practical, positive way to resolve concerns. It is your duty as a hiring manager to ensure your worker is aware of these options and is able to access support as needed.
