Research Overview

Caroline's research focuses on the development of a position-sensitive neutron detector based on plastic scintillators. Position sensitive neutron detectors are required for applications including fast neutron tomography and for the identification of radioactive sources. Advantages of plastic scintillators are robustness and the ability to be scaled up to large volumes. They are also capable of pulse shape discrimination for the separation of gamma ray and neutron induced signals.

This project aims to explore various embodiments of a newly developed plastic scintillator to identify pulse shape features which may infer the location of particle interaction. This work is supported by the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Nuclear Fission - Next Generation Nuclear and LabLogic Systems Ltd.
