Steve Barron is a Teaching Fellow of the University. He is currently Director of the MSc in Project Management and also provides project management modules for several MSc programmes at LUMS including MSc Project Management, MSc in Management and ITMOC. Steve has led project management programmes for BBC Resources, Nationwide Building Society, Department of Works and Pensions and UKAEA as well as many Open Certificate and MSc groups. He joined the University in August 1998 after a long career with BAE SYSTEMS, where Steve was involved with developing and consulting on project management practice across the organisation.

From his roots as a software engineer, Steve designed and managed the development of flight simulators and other military aircraft-related training systems - a job that took him around Europe and to the USA where he experienced many different cultures and working practices.

Steve is interested in developing effective learning approaches in Project Management. His project management interests stem from the desire to pragmatically simplify and make sense of a complex set of inter-related processes and working to differentiate between project management and "technical" activities that are inherent in project work. His book, Project Management Leadership, co-authored with Rory Burke was originally published in 2007 now re-published as a second edition. It addresses how project management leaders can develop leadership, interpersonal and team building skills. A second publication, due 2015, will investigate how project requirements can be established by considering complex project environments and using agile methods.
