James CollingwoodPhD student
I am currently analysing the results of professional snooker matches to help understand variations in ability and performance between different players.
In October 2017 I took a break from my career in the Civil Service to start a PhD at Lancaster, combining two of my core interests: OR and Snooker. I've enjoyed playing snooker for over 30 years, playing competitively at club level, and am keen to see if my OR skills can be used to inform players / coaches / broadcasters / administrators and support the development of the professional game.
I have been a member of the Government Operational Research Service (GORS) since 2003, working on a variety of projects in the Home Office, Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) and the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST). My most recent role was as a team leader producing analysis to support DWP Operations manage the delivery of Universal Credit.
